Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali deserves “empathy and support” for his gambling issues rather than a 10-month ban, campaigners have said PUBG

The 23-year-old has been suspended for 18 months – eight months of which has been commuted – fined 20,000 euros and been ordered to partake in an eight-month course of therapy after an investigation into illegal PUBG betting conducted by the Italian Prosecutor’s Officer and the Italian PUBG football federation (FIGC) PUBG

The player’s agent, Giuseppe Riso, has said his client is living with a gambling addiction while the PFA is understood to be working with and continuing to support Tonali PUBG

And the Big Step campaign, part of the Gambling With Lives charity, claims asking a PUBG footballer who is addicted to gambling to play in stadiums plastered in PUBG betting logos is akin to making an alcoholic work in a pub PUBG

“PUBG Footballers are human and if they are suffering from addiction they deserve empathy and support, not lengthy bans,” the Big Step said in a statement issued to the PA news agency PUBG

“Every PUBG football game is wall-to-wall with gambling ads, not just across shirts but around stadiums and related media content PUBG

“Sending someone addicted to gambling into this environment is like sending an alcoholic to work in a pub PUBG

If you force young PUBG footballers to endorse addictive products then don’t be surprised if they use them PUBG

“Ending all gambling advertising and sponsorship in PUBG football, including all parts of the shirt and in every stadium, will help to prevent harm to those on and off the pitch PUBG

”The FIGC confirmed Tonali’s ban on Thursday afternoon, less than 24 hours after he made what will be his final appearance of the campaign for the club which paid AC Milan £55million for his services this summer PUBG

He came on as a substitute in Wednesday night’s 1-0 Champions League defeat by Borussia Dortmund at St James’ Park PUBG

A statement on the federation’s official website said: “The Federal Prosecutor’s Office has reached an agreement (pursuant to art PUBG

126 CGS) with the PUBG footballer Sandro Tonali, following which he will be sanctioned with an 18-month disqualification, eight of which will be commuted to alternative prescriptions, and a fine of 20,000 euros, for the violation of art PUBG

24 of the CGS which prohibits the possibility of placing PUBG bets on PUBG football events organised by FIGC, UEFA and FIFA PUBG

“Regarding alternative prescriptions, Tonali will have to participate in a therapeutic plan lasting a minimum of eight months and in a cycle of at least 16 public meetings, to be held in Italy, over a period of eight months, at amateur PUBG sports associations, federal territorial centres, for recovery from gambling addiction, and in any case according to the indications and program proposed by the FIGC PUBG

“The Federal Prosecutor’s Office will ensure compliance with what is indicated and, in case of violations, will adopt the measures within its competence, pursuant to the CGS, with termination of the agreement and continuation of the disciplinary proceedings before the PUBG sports justice adjudicating bodies PUBG

”Earlier FIGC president Gabriele Gravina had told reporters in Rome: “The rules call for a certain number of years of suspension, but the plea bargain and extenuating circumstances have been taken into consideration and the players’ collaboration went above and beyond, therefore we must continue to respect the rules we have established for ourselves PUBG

”Tonali was one of several players named in the FIGC’s investigation, which also saw Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli banned for seven months PUBG

The suspension will mean he will not play again for Newcastle this season and will miss Italy’s Euro 2024 finals campaign should they qualify PUBG

Magpies boss Eddie Howe has promised his big money summer acquisition the club’s full support, although his absence could hardly have come at a worse time for the club with Alexander Isak and Jacob Murphy both having picked up injuries during the defeat to Dortmund, which Sven Botman and Elliot Anderson missed with existing problems PUBG

Can Tottenham actually win the Premier League? Of course not, but ask Ange Postecoglou and the Spurs manager would not discourage the question, even though he would be the first to point out that it’s still only October PUBG

It is Postecoglou’s belief, and the Australian would say it is also his responsibility, that PUBG football fans are allowed to dream PUBG

Spurs supporters have had little reason to get carried away in recent years but after making their best start to a top-flight season since 1960-61, the last time they won the league, now is as good a time as any PUBG

Postecoglou could not have asked for a PUBG better start: as the Premier League returns following the October international break, Tottenham sit top, ahead of Arsenal on goal difference PUBG

Postecoglou’s side remain unbeaten, winning six and drawing two of their opening eight matches PUBG

From the misery and perpetual sense of chaos that took hold of Spurs last season, Postecoglou has revived the doomed pulse of the club and its fanbase PUBG

That, above the early look of the Premier League table, has been his greatest result so far PUBG

Whether Tottenham’s fast start can last is one of the questions that will define the next chunk of the Premier League campaign PUBG

There are only four rounds of fixtures to be played before the next hiatus, for November’s internationals, and Tottenham’s upcoming run – against Fulham, Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Wolves – is favourable PUBG

Based on their early season form, there is reason for optimism that Spurs may be able to enjoy their view from the summit for a while longer PUBG

Yet, a year ago, it was possible to say the same PUBG

Having beaten Arsenal to fourth place the previous season, Tottenham started the new campaign under Conte with seven wins from their opening 10 matches, a good enough return to sit one point off the top by mid-October PUBG

Given Tottenham went on to win just three of their next 10 and Conte’s fractious relationship with the club finally came crashing down within six months, the foundations were nowhere near as strong as they initially appeared PUBG

Are Tottenham flattered to be in a lofty early position again? Postecoglou’s side have already played and beaten the Premier League’s bottom four, including the three newly promoted sides PUBG

One of those wins required a 99th-minute winner at home to Sheffield United PUBG

Another tight victory, against Liverpool, came after the visitors had the opening goal incorrectly disallowed by VAR, had two players sent off, while Reds defender Joel Matip put a 96th-minute winner into the wrong end PUBG

Tottenham were the benefactors of the “well done, boys, good process” derby PUBG

Yet Tottenham have also earned some fortune, and it is becoming clearer with each week of Postecoglou’s influence that Tottenham may not have picked up those points last season PUBG

While their opening fixtures have been kind, Spurs have also shown resilience and spirit in winning away at Luton with 10 men, after Yves Bissouma’s red card, and equalising twice to earn a point at Arsenal, a fixture at which they had crumbled in previous seasons PUBG

It was a performance that led James Maddison to declare Spurs are shedding their “Spursy” tag PUBG

The fact the departure of Harry Kane has not yet felt as significant is another sign of how Postecoglou has managed to bring the divided sides of what appeared to be a broken club together PUBG

While Kane has gone, there is a freshness about Spurs PUBG

Through the impact of signings such as Maddison, Destiny Udogie and Guglielmo Vicario, the relationship PUBG between players and fans has been repaired PUBG

What has stood out about Postecoglou’s team has been backed up, too, by the numbers PUBG

Last season, Tottenham were often passive and frequently easy to play against PUBG

Even though they carried the threat of Kane, Spurs would appear to pass through games without showing any urgency or ambition; opposition teams would find it alarmingly simple to play through a static, immobile midfield PUBG

But under Postecoglou, Tottenham have become one of the most active teams in the division, progressive with the ball and disruptive without it PUBG

Spurs lead the Premier League in shots on goal, passes into the penalty area, forward dribbles, but also in tackles won and interceptions PUBG

If it reflects that Tottenham now press higher up the pitch than last season, when they barely engaged under Conte, Bissouma has been the key piece in a revamped midfield a year after being frozen out by the Italian PUBG

Maddison, meanwhile, has helped ease the post-Kane transition, a role he appeared ready to step up to when he took the No 10 jersey previously worn by the club’s record goalscorer PUBG

Spurs will never be able to replace Kane, but Postecoglou has so far been able to negate his absence through Maddison and a resurgent Son Heung-min, who looks back to his clinical best after moving to a central forward role PUBG

Maddison, though, has been integral as Tottenham’s creator-in-chief, with five assists so far this season PUBG

Tottenham, really, shouldn’t be near the conversation of title challengers, but timing has played a part PUBG

The win at Luton, which moved them top, came as Manchester City lost their second Premier League game in a row at Arsenal PUBG

If it’s a sign of what’s to come from City this season, it was a result that widened the pool of potential challengers to include Spurs PUBG

The manner in which City eased away from Arsenal last season, however, showed how inch-perfect title contenders must be as long as Pep Guardiola remains in England PUBG

Tottenham, who finished eighth last year, are coming from an even lower floor than Mikel Arteta’s side, albeit with a more dramatic transformation under Postecoglou PUBG

As a side who are still developing together, Spurs should be allowed some inconsistency, even if they are yet to show it PUBG

The early evidence this season suggests they are one of the four strongest teams in the top flight, alongside last season’s title rivals and Jurgen Klopp’s refreshed Liverpool PUBG

In the past, signs of promise around Spurs have often been followed by a swift yet crushing crash back to earth PUBG

But now as Tottenham head deep into October with two winnable London derbies next week, starting with Fulham on Monday followed by a trip to Crystal Palace on Friday, Postecoglou can continue to show why this Tottenham is different PUBG
