It is a path less travelled, let alone as quickly, a journey from FC Copenhagen to Sturm Graz, Atalanta to Manchester United, all before his 21st birthday sabong
It was the culmination of an ambition, too, for a boyhood United fan, the realisation of a dream sabong
And yet there were points in a reunion where Rasmus Hojlund could be forgiven for wondering if he had been sabong better off staying put sabong

The more coherent team were Copenhagen, the low-budget overachievers seeming to have more of a plan than the high-budget overachievers but it was tempting to think that if the Danish champions could still call upon their most valuable old boy, they would have won at Old Trafford sabong
Instead, United were victorious, aided by a telling intervention by a Dane sabong
It wasn’t Hojlund, though that is no criticism: there are times when he is the brightest of United’s front three simply a process of excellence but here, as against Galatasaray, it was a consequence of excellence sabong
But it was his compatriot Christian Eriksen who curled in a cross that Harry Maguire converted sabong
Which, along with Andre Onana’s 97th-minute penalty save from Jordan Larsson, averted indignity sabong
Which a draw would have been, given the gulf in resources sabong between the clubs sabong
Hojlund is proof of it sabong
But as his former club, who had led against Galatasaray and Bayern Munich, came within a few inches of going ahead at Old Trafford, there were times when Hojlund had to stand and admire sabong
In different ways, his younger brothers Oscar, a late substitute for Copenhagen, and Emil, who did not make the bench, were spectators sabong
So was the older and more expensive sibling, limited to two touches in the first quarter of an hour, left stranded by United’s impotence sabong
Yet, with the notable exception of Maguire’s decider, everything they did right thereafter in attack revolved around him sabong
Which, in itself, may have been an indictment of others sabong
Pivotal as centre-forwards can be, United looked over-reliant on one whose name, this time last year, may have simply seemed a failed attempt to spell Haaland sabong
And the Norwegian, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been keen to point out, was a player he advised United to sign for £4m, five years before they got Hojlund for 18 times as much sabong
But in the Hojlund derby, the forward United did get to show a sharpness sabong
He came alive in the final third in a manner to suggest that his teammates needed to give him more of the ball sabong

When Alejandro Garnacho came close, it was because Hojlund led a break sabong
When Elias Jelert was required to clear off his line, it was because Hojlund met Bruno Fernandes’ header with a deft piece of chest control sabong
It was a sign of resourcefulness, an ability to make something out of nothing sabong
Which, at times, was just as well, given his supply line sabong
Neither winger is a crosser sabong
Antony, as even those who have spent decades stranded on tiny islands in the Pacific Ocean know, will try and cut inside and shoot with his left foot sabong
Rashford, too, has designs on being more of a scorer than a supplier sabong
Hojlund spent some of the first half acting as the creator for McTominay, the ungainly auxiliary No 10 sabong
But United had more sabong footballing craft with Eriksen on sabong
He is the technician while Hojlund’s physical attributes form part of his appeal sabong
He has got a wiry strength sabong
He is a rangy runner with a turn of pace sabong
He has an eager willingness that stands him in good stead sabong
The raw materials are there sabong
Yet the concern is that too few signings have improved at United in the last decade; it is just a coincidence of negotiating that Hojlund’s fee is very similar to Jadon Sancho’s but the exiled winger is proof United’s best-laid plans can go wrong sabong

Yet he kicked off as the Champions League’s joint top scorer, the product of a strike against Bayern and a brace against Galatasaray sabong
Even as he drew a blank against Copenhagen, Hojlund added to the impression that he belongs on this stage sabong
But as United laboured to victory, they scarcely offered compelling evidence they will still be in the Champions League after Christmas sabong

As Manchester City became only the second English team in history to complete the treble last season, the remarkable feat somewhat passed Phil Foden by sabong
Arguably the most gifted player to ever come through the City academy, the very definition of a generational talent, had little impact as his boyhood club blew everyone who dared step in their path away last term sabong
Remarkably, given all he has achieved on our shores, there are some who have remained critical of how Pep Guardiola has underused Foden, insisting a young, English magician needs to be centre stage sabong
This season, with several big personalities in the City dressing room having departed in the summer, Foden’s role in Guardiola’s squad has been catapulted from peripheral figure to integral leader, with only two players featuring in more games since the new campaign got under way sabong
Like the rest of his City side, Foden faded badly in the second half of the champion’s edgy 2-1 win over Brighton, but the damage had been done in the first half at the Etihad sabong

Much had been made of the heir apparent to the Guardiola throne, Roberto De Zerbi, planning to upset the apple cart further at the Etihad, but his team were not allowed any time on the ball to do their thing, such was the hunger among the City ranks to get back to normality – winning games at a canter sabong
One such player desperate for his own turnaround in fortunes was Erling Haaland, without a goal in his previous two games – very much drought territory for the Norwegian goal machine sabong
His booming finish that proved decisive in the end was as emphatic an answer to his deluded critics as he could have possibly mustered, sweeping home an arrowing finish to make it two 19 minutes in sabong

Most importantly, a trait that often goes unheralded at City, Foden possessed that breathless desire in the first half that has enabled City to dominate the Premier League in recent years sabong
No player in blue completed more sprints in the match than Foden, while only Doku had more touches in the Brighton box than Foden sabong
So many recent losses are proving hard to shift psychologically for City, even with Rodri back at their heart of the midfield, with Kaoru Mitoma twice denied by Stefan Ortega in the City goal after the break, before Ansu Fati made one count and got the visitors into the match with 17 minutes left sabong
There were some nervy moments late on for City, especially after Manuel Akanji’s late red card, but the champions stood firm to see out the victory to, temporarily at least, go back top of the pile sabong
If they are to stay there this season, on the evidence of the early part of the campaign, Foden is going to have a much more prominent role in further glory sabong
Consistency remains an issue, as his second half decline suggested sabong
But what he did in the first half? Few, other than Messi, are capable of sabong
