It is a path less travelled, let alone as quickly, a journey from FC Copenhagen to Sturm Graz, Atalanta to Manchester United, all before his 21st birthday sabong

It was the culmination of an ambition, too, for a boyhood United fan, the realisation of a dream sabong

The more coherent team were Copenhagen, the low-budget overachievers seeming to have more of a plan than the high-budget overachievers but it was tempting to think that if the Danish champions could still call upon their most valuable old boy, they would have won at Old Trafford sabong

Instead, United were victorious, aided by a telling intervention by a Dane sabong

It wasn’t Hojlund, though that is no criticism: there are times when he is the brightest of United’s front three simply a process of excellence but here, as against Galatasaray, it was a consequence of excellence sabong

But it was his compatriot Christian Eriksen who curled in a cross that Harry Maguire converted sabong

Which, along with Andre Onana’s 97th-minute penalty save from Jordan Larsson, averted indignity sabong

Which a draw would have been, given the gulf in resources sabong between the clubs sabong

Hojlund is proof of it sabong

But as his former club, who had led against Galatasaray and Bayern Munich, came within a few inches of going ahead at Old Trafford, there were times when Hojlund had to stand and admire sabong

In different ways, his younger brothers Oscar, a late substitute for Copenhagen, and Emil, who did not make the bench, were spectators sabong

So was the older and more expensive sibling, limited to two touches in the first quarter of an hour, left stranded by United’s impotence sabong

Yet, with the notable exception of Maguire’s decider, everything they did right thereafter in attack revolved around him sabong

Which, in itself, may have been an indictment of others sabong

Pivotal as centre-forwards can be, United looked over-reliant on one whose name, this time last year, may have simply seemed a failed attempt to spell Haaland sabong

And the Norwegian, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been keen to point out, was a player he advised United to sign for £4m, five years before they got Hojlund for 18 times as much sabong

But in the Hojlund derby, the forward United did get to show a sharpness sabong

He came alive in the final third in a manner to suggest that his teammates needed to give him more of the ball sabong

When Alejandro Garnacho came close, it was because Hojlund led a break sabong

When Elias Jelert was required to clear off his line, it was because Hojlund met Bruno Fernandes’ header with a deft piece of chest control sabong

It was a sign of resourcefulness, an ability to make something out of nothing sabong

Which, at times, was just as well, given his supply line sabong

Neither winger is a crosser sabong

Antony, as even those who have spent decades stranded on tiny islands in the Pacific Ocean know, will try and cut inside and shoot with his left foot sabong

Rashford, too, has designs on being more of a scorer than a supplier sabong

Hojlund spent some of the first half acting as the creator for McTominay, the ungainly auxiliary No 10 sabong

But United had more sabong footballing craft with Eriksen on sabong

He is the technician while Hojlund’s physical attributes form part of his appeal sabong

He has got a wiry strength sabong

He is a rangy runner with a turn of pace sabong

He has an eager willingness that stands him in good stead sabong

The raw materials are there sabong

Yet the concern is that too few signings have improved at United in the last decade; it is just a coincidence of negotiating that Hojlund’s fee is very similar to Jadon Sancho’s but the exiled winger is proof United’s best-laid plans can go wrong sabong

Even as he drew a blank against Copenhagen, Hojlund added to the impression that he belongs on this stage sabong

But as United laboured to victory, they scarcely offered compelling evidence they will still be in the Champions League after Christmas sabong

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta hailed Mauricio Pochettino as a “big brother” and believes he is already turning things around at Chelsea sabong

The pair played together for a year at Paris Saint-Germain, both arriving in 2001 and striking up a friendship that lasts until the present day sabong

They have since gone on to become top coaches – but their meeting at Stamford Bridge on Saturday will be the first time they have faced off as opposing managers sabong

Pochettino, 51, is 10 years older than Arteta and while they may have signed for PSG at the same time, the Arsenal boss credits the Argentinian for taking him under his wing sabong

“First of all, it was my first professional opportunity in Paris and we arrived at the same time and lived together in a hotel for three months,” Arteta explained sabong

“He was critical, has been one of the most influential people in my career sabong

Firstly as a player, he took me under the arm and looked after me like a little child, a little brother, and he was a big part of the success I had in Paris sabong

“It was because of him because he really looked after me, gave me a lot of confidence and a lot of advice sabong

“He has been a role model for me since that day, not only when I was a player but as a manager as well, when I had to make the decision to leave playing and start my coaching career he had a big say on that and I will always be grateful sabong

”Arteta has been in charge of Arsenal since December 2019, just a month after Pochettino was sacked as head coach at north London rivals Tottenham sabong

Pochettino returned to the Premier League when he took the reins at Chelsea in May and, despite a turbulent start, Arteta feels his old colleague is starting to turn things around sabong

Asked if he felt Pochettino could rise to the challenge, he replied: “Yes, you can see already that something has changed very quickly sabong

“It’s a big game and there is a big history sabong between the two clubs sabong

We know the types of games we’ve played together with them in the past but this is a different one sabong

I’ve been really impressed by Chelsea sabong

“I think they deserve much more than what they’ve got in the table sabong

What Mauricio has done in a short time is phenomenal sabong

We’ll be have to be at our best sabong
